TIME/OUT OF JOINT
is a highly eclectic collection of topics dealing with the paradox of time
reversal seen as both, a scientific and cultural phenomenon.
It is a feature-length experimental documentary (to meet its highly experimental
topic) that investigates groundbreaking scientific discoveries such as the
reduction of light velocity, auditory time reversal mirrors, the legacy of
Richard Feynman's particle discoveries as well as two orthodox time travel
theories from the filed of quantum physics. In addition the backwards turning
of time also appears as "age reversal" which applies stem-cell cloning,
among other concepts from the research field of gerontology.
Finally the project features several "interpretations" of time reversal
from various cultural and artistic practices, including time-slice photography,
backwards speech experiments, backward masking in music and "reverse-forward"
film techniques.
Time/ Out of Joint is now co-produced for German Television by The Hamburg
FilmFund and 3Sat Television, Germany.
The project is conceived and directed by New York-based German award-winning filmmaker Caspar Stracke.
Producer: Madeleine Dewald of Dock 43, Hamburg
